Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels Honors Their Veterans
ROSENBERG, Texas (November 15, 2017)— Last week, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBS) congregants gathered at the Bud O’Shieles Community Center for a Veterans Day Celebration presented by Fluor Corporation. Emcee for the event was FBS Board Chairman Ray Aguilar.
“Our Veterans day celebration is a wonderful way to honor all the brave men and women who have served our country,” said Manuela Arroyos, Fort Bend Seniors CEO. “We all come together to celebrate and recognize those whose legacies continue to make our nation a better place, at an event which brings joy to each of our seniors.”
The celebration started with a welcome from Fluor corporations’ Senior Community & Public Affairs Manager, Barbara Jones, along with FBS Board Members. Fluor has been a longtime supporter of FBS, and over the years has invested more than $1.5 million in military and veteran-related causes, including, but not limited to, providing educational scholarships, building and refurbishing specially adapted homes, and participating in initiatives to help veterans find meaningful employment.
The program continued with “God Bless America” and the national anthem performed by vocalists Sheree Howard and Clyde Copeland, respectively, along with the Posting of the Colors by the Travis High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls, Colonel Tom Goodfellow, U.S. Air Force veteran and FBS Board Member Rick Forlano, and Fort Bend County Commissioner Vincent Morales honored Fort Bend and Waller County Senior Veterans and surviving spouses. A moment of silence was followed by the playing of “Taps,” performed by Conner Branek, in memory of all those soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. The celebration ended with the retirement of the colors and a commemorative lunch to all our seniors in attendance.
